I had some problems with partition Magic 8 and the Ext 3
file system. It would read and see the partiton, but it
wouldnt do anything with it. This was using the Boot
Floppies.
Partition Magic might work, and since you have a backup
there's nothing to
lose by trying. A quick-and-dirty option would be to
create a /usr/home
directory, move some of the home directories there, and
symlink them to
their original locations under /home.

Subject: [WLUG] Hard disk space
RedHat 9.0 on a 40 gig Hard drive.
Space on the hard drive on my working machine is allocated
as follows:
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use%
Mounted on
/dev/hda5 505605 174379 305122 37% /
/dev/hda1 101089 27757 68113 29%
/boot
/dev/hda3 9732588 8307328 930860 90%
/home
none 176116 0 176116 0%
/dev/shm
/dev/hda2 26636596 1981172 23302352 8%
/usr
/dev/hda6 1027768 290584 684976 30%
/var
Mostly, this is from using default settings when I did my
last install in
July. /home has filled up near capacity and there seems to
be way more than
adequate space in /usr.
Presently, all needed files are backed up on another
machine, as well as on
CD. I could do a clean install at this point and probably
resolve the
partition sizing, but would like to know if there is a way
to reallocate
space, short of doing this. I have Partition Magic 5.0, but
have never used
it. I would appreciate any wisdom/expertise anyone would
care to share.
